Tokyo Sustainable Seafood Summit 2022 Registration Opened!

 

The Tokyo Sustainable Seafood Summit 2022 (TSSS2022) will be held from 19th to 21st October, Wednesday to Friday, 2022. The event is hosted by Seafood Legacy Co., Ltd. (hereinafter “Seafood Legacy ”) and Nikkei ESG and co-sponsored by Walton Family Foundation, and David and Lucile Packard Foundation.

 

“Designing the Blue Ocean Strategy for the Seafood Industry” is the theme of TSSS2022. Together with a wide range of experts from international organizations, governments, companies, financial institutions, NGOs, and others, we will discuss a path to carve out a new area of “Blue Ocean Strategy” for the seafood sector.

 

The Tokyo Sustainable Seafood Symposium, the predecessor to this year’s Tokyo Sustainable Seafood Summit, has been held yearly since 2015 and has grown into one of Asia’s largest and leading events in the sustainable seafood movement, with its participation growing each year. Last year, there were 2,391 attendees (Japanese/English/online viewership).

 

Our ocean faces all of these ecological, economic, and social challenges and our collective action is more important than ever.

 

The global collective efforts to establish a sustainable and responsible society continue to address important issues such as climate change, biodiversity and natural capital protection, and labor rights in the global supply chains.

 

The ocean is a cradle for living creatures and captures and stores greenhouse gasses as “blue carbon”. On the other hand, the seafood industry’s supply chain faces human rights issues, as well as challenges such as a depletion of wild fish stocks and the number of fishing workers. Rising fuel and feed prices due to geopolitical risks have also put pressure on the seafood industry, posing challenges to food security. The time has come for financial institutions to invest in the ocean while assessing these risks and opportunities.

 

For three days, the summit will have experts, both domestic and foreign, to join with other related persons in the seafood industry to discuss the future of the Japanese seafood industry, with the goal of passing on bountiful oceans and a sustainable seafood industry to the generations that follow.
